100 years of Migros

100 years of Migros: we say 'Merci'!

Merci

Migros celebrates its 100th birthday. In its anniversary year, Migros is renaming itself MERCI to thank the people of Switzerland for their loyalty. A Switzerland-wide 'Merci tour' with DAS ZELT, birthday parties in all Migros stores and a Migros sales bus, like in the old days, are just some of the highlights.

Migros is saying 'MERCI' to mark its 100th anniversary and will also make a slight change to its logo. In 2025, it will thank the people of Switzerland, its cooperative members, its customers, its employees and its many partners. They have all helped to make Migros what it is today – Switzerland's most popular retailer. "What Gottlieb Duttweiler started in 1925 with five sales vehicles is now an institution that is uniquely enshrined into everyday Swiss life thanks to the public," says Ursula Nold, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives (FMC). In its anniversary year, Migros will show its appreciation for this support with many colourful activities.

'Merci Tour': Culture for everyone – at prices like those 100 years ago

The 'Merci Tour' with DAS ZELT comprises eight different shows with a total of 179 performances in 15 regions. Migros is offering more than 250,000 tickets at the same price as 100 years ago – CHF 9 each. The shows will feature a wide range of acts, ranging from comedy acts, cabaret and performances from talented young artists to dance and family shows. As a supporting programme, the 'Migros Expo', a free travelling exhibition, will guide visitors through the 100 most important events in Migros' history. Tickets for the 'Merci Tour' are now available at www.migros.ch/merci-tour.

Anniversary fireworks and birthday parties at every store

Throughout the anniversary year, customers can look forward to special promotions, such as monthly 'anniversary fireworks' with a discount of 50% each. On 23 and 24 May 2025, all Migros supermarkets throughout Switzerland will be transformed into birthday party zones. Many more surprises are planned over the course of the year.

'Merci Bus': 100 great little places

The popular Migros sales vehicle from 1986 mustn't be missed in the anniversary year. It will be touring Switzerland as the 'Merci Bus' from 6 March to 18 October, stopping at 100 small towns and inviting the local community to join in the celebrations. Just like years ago, visitors can also go shopping on the Migros bus, with a range of 100 Migros products available for purchase. All dates and locations at a glance: PDF

'MERCI. The festival!' – for 80,000 employees

"The biggest thank-you of all goes to all Migros Group employees who work day-in, day-out to ensure the well-being and quality of life of our customers," says Mario Irminger, President of the FMC Executive Board. The entire Migros Group workforce will therefore come together on the grounds of the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Glarus on 1 and 2 September for the biggest employee festival Switzerland has ever seen. More than 80,000 employees have been invited.

'Promise for the future'

From its pioneering role in the retail industry to its promotion of public health and social cohesion and its sustainable innovations: Migros has consistently helped to shape Switzerland. However, the anniversary year is not just a tribute to Gottlieb Duttweiler's visionary ideas and achievements. "It is a promise for the future that we will continue to work to ensure people's quality of life and social cohesion," says Ursula Nold.
