Our responsibility
Responsibility
We do more for Switzerland

Migros and Switzerland belong together. That’s why we do more for people, nature and the economy. In everything we do, we strive to be more sustainable, more social and work as closely as possible with the communities we operate in. We do this not only because we believe it’s the right thing to do, but also because it’s our passion.
We are committed
 - Our responsibility - Support for associations- Thanks to Support your Sport & Support Culture, 22,856 sports/cultural associations have received CHF 18 million for projects such as trampolines for young gymnasts and mask design courses since 2021. Distribution is decided on by Migros customers.
 - Our responsibility - “Non” beer- A democratic approach to beer. In 2022, 2.3 million cooperative members voted on the sale of alcohol, choosing between “Oui” or “Non” beer bottles. The result? A resounding no. Since October, we now have numerous non-alcoholic beers on offer.
 - Our responsibility - Climate protection- We support climate protection projects like the Necaayo cocoa cooperative, which uses new cultivation methods to avoid deforestation and improve soil quality. Online customers can support the projects with every purchase via the climate contribution.
 - Our responsibility - Sustainable milk- All of our drinking milk comes from responsibly reared cows. Since 2022, all Migros drinking milk must meet at least the IP-Suisse standard. Only Organic and Demeter guidelines are stricter. Much of our milk meets these more stringent criteria too.
 - Our responsibility - Club School- Our Club School offers wedding dance, martial arts, mindfulness and many other courses. Over 200,000 people attend classes each year. Founded in 1944 by Gottlieb Duttweiler, it’s the largest private educational and leisure institution in Switzerland.
 - Our responsibility - Migros Museum- The Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich specialises in exhibiting, collecting and facilitating access to international contemporary art. Admission is and will always be free! As such, we are setting an example for open access to culture.
 - Our responsibility - Disposable tableware- Plastic waste harms our environment. We stopped providing disposable plastic tableware in late 2020 and plastic cutlery for ready meals at the end of 2022. Instead, we offer ecological alternatives, e.g. made of wood, bioplastics or palm leaves.
 - Our responsibility - Fun runs- As the main sponsor for Switzerland’s most popular fun runs, we get over 230,000 runners on the move throughout the country each year, giving runners the opportunity to live out their passion in the most beautiful surroundings, whatever their level.
 - Our responsibility - 3,700 apprenticeships- As the largest Swiss private employer, we offer the greatest number of apprenticeships, with 3,700 new starters in 60 professions at 40 companies. From retail to recycling specialists, we’re investing in young talent and the future of Switzerland.
 - Our responsibility - Green parks- We provide > 600,000 m² of green space for free. In 1946, Gottlieb & Adele Duttweiler donated the “Zur Langhalden” estate to the public. Other parks: Gurten in Bern, Grün 80 in Münchenstein, Parc Pré Vert du Signal de Bougy in the canton of Vaud.
