After the Second World War, Migros imported large quantities of eggs from America. When a letter from an egg sorting employee was found in a crate from Minnesota, the Brückenbauer launched a writing competition called «Egg blessings from America».
The Migros egg checker is amazed when he finds an egg on which is written: ”Whoever finds this egg, please write to Miss Loreen Wilsie, Grand Meadow, Minnesota USA. Egg sorter at the Farmers Produce Company.” Loreen Wilsie added this personal greeting to a dispatch of eggs in early 1946, at a time when Migros imported eggs from the USA to put an end to the years of ”shortest rationing”.
Migros reacts promptly and Miss Wilsie receives a friendly letter and a photo book about Switzerland. The Brückenbauer makes the most of the opportunity and ”starts a competition“ amongst the cooperative members to find the ”most appropriate and funniest story or drawing about the egg blessing from America“.
The winner is Ms. Thaddi Brodmann from Adliswil. Her contribution is published in August in the Wir Brückenbauer newspaper and the rest of the entries are published as a collection and also sent as a thank you to Miss Wilsie in the USA.
