Farewell to “Dutti”

1962 proves to be a momentous year for Migros. Gottlieb Duttweiler dies on 8 June at the age of 74. The M-community are not the only ones in mourning. The countless obituaries published in Switzerland and abroad show just how highly regarded the Migros founder was. The funeral service held at the Fraumünster is broadcast to the Grossmünster, the Wasserkirche and St Peter's Church. Thousands of mourners pay their last respects to Gottlieb Duttweiler. All of the stores and companies within the M-community close for the day. "Dutti," as he is affectionately known to people, has had a major influence over Swiss society with his ideas and actions.
