In Amriswil, canton of Thurgau, Migros realises the first Swiss supermarket that has virtually no heating and has been awarded the Minergie label. In Amriswil, Migros saves 22,000 litres of heating oil a year through various targeted measures and reduces the building's CO2 emissions by 57 tonnes per year. Besides good thermal insulation, heat recovery is also a major factor: refrigeration and freezer units produce waste heat that is distributed throughout the supermarket and used for heating. Migros' first Minergie-certified building is the redeveloped high-rise on Limmatplatz in Zurich. Over the past 15 years, Migros has cut absolute heat energy consumption by 14% at its stores.
