In January, Gottlieb Duttweiler travels to Istanbul at the invitation of the Turkish Ministry of Trade and Economic Affairs. The talks end with a presentation for a Migros Türk. A public limited company is founded on 1 April in which Migros holds a stake. The aim is to convert the company into a cooperative at a later stage. On 1 October 1955, 20 sales vans set out from Istanbul. By 1974, Migros Türk has developed into a company with over 700 employees thanks to Migros experts. It nevertheless becomes clear in the same year that conversion to a cooperative structure is not feasible. This is why the FMC cedes the majority shareholding to the Turkish company Koç Holding in 1975. Migros Türk is allowed to continue using the name "Migros," albeit with a slightly different spelling – "MiGROS" with a lower case i. In 2009, the company name is changed from Migros Türk to Migros Ticaret after a takeover.
