The attainment of the Migros Group's sustainability goals is a responsibility of everyone in the community. Success is enjoyed when responsibility is taken and commitment is translated into real actions. It is precisely these actions that the "People & Nature" award highlight.

The nominations were made by the core Sustainability team of the Migros Group, which is made up of representatives from the Federation of Migros Cooperatives and companies such as Migros Supermarket Ltd, Denner, Digitec Galaxus, Migrol, Migrolino, Migros Industrie, Medbase and Migros Bank. An internal jury evaluated the entries and selected the winners.

"The Migros Group's 'People & Nature' award highlights commitment the impact of which extends beyond individual projects. We want to show our appreciation of good role models, promote discussion and encourage others to get involved in sustainability initiatives," says Chris Rohrer, Head of Sustainability at the Federation of Migros Cooperatives.

In the "Partner organisation" category, Migros supports the award-winning research project with a prize of CHF 10,000. The enterprise that wins the award in the "Agriculture" category receives CHF 5000, while the winner in the "Employees" category can look forward to CHF 2500.

"Partner organisation" category: Making climate protection tangible

The winner in the "Partner organisation" category was IP‑Suisse, represented by Vice President Hanspeter Brunner. IP‑Suisse has been committed to key sustainability issues, such as biodiversity and climate protection, for many years – including in collaboration with the Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach and Agroscope. The spotlight was shone in particular on the pioneering work carried out in the climate sector with the Climafarm system, which records emissions at a company level, visualises reductions and thus makes climate protection values measurable and comparable. This provides a benchmark for progress in the entire industry.

"Agriculture" category: biodiversity in the field

Nadine and Urban Dörig, who run the Bio‑Suisse‑certified St. Katharinental farm in Diessenhofen (TG), were presented with the award in the "Agriculture" category. The farm advocates the consistent promotion of biodiversity through ecological mitigation measures and a future-oriented approach to regenerative agriculture. The company's intensive focus on soil fertility and the active transfer of knowledge within the industry underline its position as a role model.

"Employees" category: More sustainable chicken as an industry first

Thomas Stoffel , Head of Dairy Products & Meat at Migros Supermarket Ltd, was the winner chosen in the "Employees" category. The award honoured an initiative that covers animal welfare, biodiversity and market requirements. His commitment has enabled Migros – in collaboration with IP‑Suisse – to become the first retailer in Switzerland to make its chicken production more sustainable across its extensive product range. It is reviewing its entire Optigal own brand to include only chicken breeds that grow more slowly and are bred less intensively. Migros is setting new standards for more sustainable production methods in the retail sector.
