The Migros Ticino and Migros Lucerne cooperatives are utilising synergies and shaping the logistics of the future. The Migros Lucerne cooperative will take over logistics services for the Migros Ticino cooperative in stages by 2030. It will safeguard store order picking with its automated equipment and systems at the Dierikon operations centre. “With this solution, we are achieving benefits not only for the Lucerne and Ticino cooperatives, but for the entire Migros Group – by simplifying the logistics landscape”, says Guido Rast, Managing Director of Migros Lucerne.

In future, the operations centre in Dierikon will use its modern and automated facilities to carry out order picking for all Migros stores in Ticino. The goods are loaded onto containers organised by store. They travel overnight by rail through the Gotthard Tunnel to Ticino.  From Sant’Antonino, the containers will be distributed to the stores by lorry. The Sant’Antonino site will remain and retain its function as a key logistics hub in Ticino. “This flagship project for logistics shows how we can utilise synergies among the regional cooperatives”, says Mattia Keller, Managing Director of Migros Ticino.

The Migros Ticino logistics employees affected by the change will be supported over the next five years in order to find solutions within or outside of Migros Ticino.
