The Federation of Migros Cooperatives (FMC) wishes to strengthen the position of the Medbase Group as a leading provider of basic medical care services. Since its foundation in 2001, the Medbase Group has become the leading provider of healthcare services in Switzerland. Migros has owned the company since 2010. Previously, its shares were held by the FMC and the Migros Cooperatives of Eastern Switzerland, Lucerne and Zurich. The acquisition of the shares by the FMC will allow the Medbase Group to press ahead with and focus even more consistently on its growth strategy thanks to the simplified shareholder structure and shorter decision-making processes. The full acquisition will take place on 1 April 2026.

Focus on health and growth

Mario Irminger, President of the FMC Executive Board and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Medbase Group, says: "The acquisition of all of the shares lays the foundation for the successful future development of the Medbase Group and the consistent expansion of the healthcare business area. This benefits everyone as the provision of efficient, nationwide basic medical care services meets an essential requirement of the Swiss people. The Migros Group makes a vital contribution to the reliable and sustainable provision of medical services."

Once the transaction has been completed, Martin Lutz, Managing Director of Migros Eastern Switzerland, will step down from the Board of Directors of the Medbase Group. "I am pleased the simplification of the ownership structure will help to create optimal conditions for the future development of the Medbase Group. Medbase is excellently positioned to achieve its goals in the future," says Martin Lutz. The FMC would like to thank him and the cooperatives involved for their tremendous efforts over the years.

Under unified ownership, the Medbase Group can now focus entirely on its long-term growth. The aim is to further consolidate its leading position in the Swiss healthcare market while also supporting the sustainable development and future success of Migros as a whole.
