Torsten Friedrich steps down as CEO of Denner

Torsten Friedrich is leaving Denner at his own request after differences of opinion over the discounter's future development became clear. Michel Gruber, Chair of the Board of Directors, will take over the management of Switzerland's largest discounter on an interim basis.
Torsten Friedrich will step down as CEO of Denner at the end of April. He is leaving the company at his own request. He took his decision after differences of opinion over Denner's strategy and future development emerged. By mutual agreement, both sides have concluded that a change of management is the best solution for Denner's future development.
Since taking up his position in January 2025, Torsten Friedrich has reorganised the management team and contributed his wealth of experience in the discount business. Under his leadership, Denner has refined its strategy, rolled out its new store format with more fresh produce and maintained its position as the largest discounter in a challenging market environment.
"Under Torsten Friedrich's leadership, Denner has gained major impetus and honed its discount profile in a competitive environment," says Michel Gruber, Head of the Migros Group's Retail Department and Chair of the Board of Directors of Denner. "I wish to thank him for his tremendous commitment and excellent cooperation. We wish him every success in the future in both his personal and professional endeavours."
Torsten Friedrich says: "I would like to thank the employees of Denner for their incredible commitment. Denner is a strong company with a clear discounter profile and loyal customer base. Now is the right time for me to embark on a new career path."
Michel Gruber will take over as CEO of Denner ad interim.
