In early 1958, Migros sales vans were finally introduced in Canton Glarus which was under the catchment area of the Zurich Regional Cooperative. Local businesses tried to fend Migros off one last time, but there was nothing more they could do against the will of the cantonal government.
The authorities in Glarus dragged their feet for 14 months with regard to Migros’ request to operate its sales vans. Migros decided it had waited long enough and could now act: it announced in a leaflet the first sales route through the canton. This set the ball rolling and the first Migros vehicles were permitted to drive to Bilten, Nieder- and Oberurnen, Näfels and Mollis on Epiphany, 1958. People gathered together everywhere - those who were fans of Migros and also those who were against it. The president of a farming corporation blocked one of the designated stops with agricultural machinery and «heavy» boulders, but these were futile gestures.
The Cooperative Assembly celebrated the long-awaited triumph to protect Glarus by hanging four 1:10 scale model sales vans from the ceiling, « a visible sign of the recently won success». The Brückenbauer excitedly reported that the meeting was a «party with spirit and motivation». There was a «top-rate magician» and the Basel Cabaret Gigampfi, followed by an orchestra – «for young and old to join in the dancing and be put in a great mood».
