Migros launches the "Save Food" initiative to combat the waste of Swiss fruits and vegetables

Migros' "Save Food" initiative aims to encourage people to eat Swiss fruits and vegetables that look different to produce usually found on the shelves, but which are sustainable, inexpensive and of the highest quality. The new initiative aims to reduce food waste, support agriculture and raise customer awareness about adopting a more mindful approach to food.
Migros' "Save Food" initiative sends out a strong message aimed at combating food waste. Migros is now selling attractively priced Swiss fruit and vegetables that were previously not generally included in the standard range due to deviations from the norm. The goal is to reduce food waste, support Swiss agriculture and offer customers sustainable produce at attractive prices.
Ensuring a sustainable approach to food
"Save Food" products do not meet conventional standards. For example, they may differ from the norm due to their irregular shape, smaller size or weather-related damage - but are still top-quality produce.
Migros' "Save Food" initiative provides customers with another way of reducing food waste: clearly labelled fruit and vegetables that may look a bit different to the norm, but are inexpensive and of the highest quality.
Launch with Swiss potatoes
The range is being launched with Swiss potatoes – an ideal product given last year's exceptionally good harvest. Over the coming months, the range will be expanded to include other produce, such as carrots, onions, apples and pears.
Migros has always supported Swiss agriculture – even during challenging times. Whether irregular by nature or due to damaged harvests, Migros accepts these products and offers them to consumers. Migros' "Save Food" initiative combines existing approaches, such as "M-Budget" and "different is beautiful", to create a standard national range, providing both sustainable and attractively priced products.
