Migros Online reaches a milestone and is investing in the digital shopping experience

Migros Online is celebrating its fifth anniversary today. It can look back on an impressive development from a start-up to Switzerland's leading online supermarket. One key step in preparing for the future is the construction of a modern distribution centre in Regensdorf in Zurich canton, which is due to open in the spring of 2026.
The story of Migros Online began back in 1997 with the founding of LeShop.ch; Switzerland's very first online supermarket and one of the first in Europe. Even then, the aim was to make grocery shopping simpler. LeShop.ch became a part of the Migros Group in 2006 and began been operating under the name Migros Online in 2020. Since then, it has established itself as the market leader in Swiss online food retailing. The number of regular customers is currently up 4% on last year.
"Migros Online has not only changed the way our customers shop, but also had a lasting impact on the Swiss e-commerce landscape," says Migros Online CEO Katrin Tschannen. "Our objective has always been to make online shopping as easy, efficient and customer-friendly as possible. And that will remain our goal in future." Through its partnership with Swiss Post, Migros Online can reach customers in all parts of Switzerland.
Simple digital solutions for everyday life
Over the past five years, Migros Online has continuously improved the shopping experience for its customers. Between them, the website migros.ch and the Migros app, which a University of St. Gallen study deemed Switzerland's most-used shopping app, bring everything together, from stores to the online supermarket. Functions like personalised recommendations, smart shopping lists, the integration of the Cumulus card and an overview of special offers and discounts make online shopping both convenient and intuitive.
Migros Online currently offers more than 12,500 Migros products and branded goods. Its best-selling items are milk, cucumbers, bananas, avocados, eggs and water. Almost half (44%) of all orders are placed using the app, the rest via computer.
Investing in the future
One central project is the new 38,000m² distribution centre in Regensdorf in Zurich canton. When this opens, in spring 2026, it will replace the existing warehouses in Bremgarten and Pratteln and offer a product range almost twice as large as at present. The semi-automated facility will create more modern and more ergonomic workplaces. Optimised workflows will also ensure faster delivery, enabling customers to receive their orders the following day and in some cases the very same day. "We hope that the new distribution centre will ensure that we remain the preferred option for online shopping in the years ahead," Katrin Tschannen says.
