First Swiss institute for nutritional research

1 / 4

The first Swiss institute for nutritional research is founded in Rüschlikon in 1958 by the "Im Grüene" foundation and is officially opened on 18 April 1959. Gottlieb Duttweiler, President of the "Im Grüene" Foundation, gives the opening address. The Federal Office of Public Health and various nutritional science societies from Switzerland and neighbouring countries attend the event. In light of the increasing use of technology in food production and greater insights into the links between nutrition and public health in nutritional science, research work becomes increasingly important. Under the leadership of J.C. Somogyi, the institute's research activities are recognised both in Switzerland and abroad. It aims to explore and conduct research on all nutritional matters of importance to the promotion of public health, irrespective of economic considerations. Workshops are held on a regular basis.
