On 21 August, Migros' new national collective labour agreement (L-GAV) is adopted for the period 2007 to 2010. Key elements of the new agreement are four-week paternity leave (two weeks paid, two unpaid), guaranteed employment after maternity leave, the right to re-employment for fathers and mothers and equality for same-sex partnerships and blended families. The restructured daily sickness benefits insurance guarantees all employees their full salary for 730 days. The L-GAV applies to around 50 companies in 25 different sectors which employ around 80,000 staff in total. The L-GAV is the successful outcome of constructive collaboration between Migros, the Swiss Association of Commercial Employees (Kaufmännischen Verband Schweiz – KV Schweiz), the Swiss Butchers' Staff Association (Metzgereipersonal-Verband der Schweiz – MPV) and the Migros Group's national conference.
