The multinational Persán, a European market leader in the areas of home care and personal care, has signed an agreement with the Swiss retailer Migros to acquire the Mibelle Group, a company specializing in personal care and beauty, home care, nutrition, as well as the development of active ingredients for the cosmetics and nutraceutical industries. The Spanish company is taking over all employees and facilities of the Mibelle Group in Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, USA and Australia. Not included is the South Korean subsidiary of the Mibelle Group, Gowoonsesang Cosmetics Co, Ltd, which has been acquired by L’Oréal S.A., as communicated in December 2024. This transaction will make Persán one of the world’s largest players in the private label and contract manufacturing business.
The acquisition of the Mibelle Group represents a historic milestone in Persán's international expansion. The Andalusian company has more than 2,000 employees and three plants in Seville (Spain), Wróblowice (Poland) and Saint-Vulbas (France). With the Mibelle Group's 1,400 employees, Persán will employ more than 3,000 people and its turnover will exceed one billion euros.
Migros's decision to sell the Mibelle Group is a result of its commitment to focus on its core business with supermarkets, with an emphasis on local business in Switzerland. In Persán, Migros has found a partner for the Mibelle Group to continue its international growth path of recent years.
The Mibelle Group is known for its innovative character and its desire to be at the forefront of sustainability and technology. Additionally, Persán and the Mibelle Group share values that favor their integration. These are also reflected in the culture inherited from being part of a company with a century-old history, such as Migros. These attributes are in line with Persán's philosophy of moving forward through strong partnerships and the development of technology and people. The two companies also complement each other very well in terms of expertise, technology and markets.
Popular own brands such as ‘I am’ still available at Migros
Migros continues to pursue a strong own-brand strategy. The popular Migros own brands such as ‘Handy’, ‘I am’ and ‘Zoé’, which are produced by the Mibelle Group, will continue to be available at Migros. Long-term supply agreements have been concluded between Migros and the Mibelle Group for the Home Care, Personal Care and Nutrition segments, ensuring that the Mibelle Group will remain an important strategic supplier to Migros in the future.
Strengthening competitiveness, know-how and global positioning
Persán's CEO, Antonio Somé, stated that “we are very pleased to announce this agreement with Migros that will help Persán to strengthen its international presence. The acquisition of the Mibelle Group will allow us to access new technologically advanced categories and continue to develop innovative and high-quality products for all our customers. The Mibelle Group shares Persán's values and strategic vision, so we have no doubt that this acquisition will be beneficial for all parties. In this new phase, we will maintain the hallmarks that have brought us this far: a commitment to people, innovation, technology and sustainability. We look forward to exploring the opportunities that this historic step will bring.”
For its part, the head of Migros Industrie, Matthias Wunderlin, said that “we are very happy to have found an extremely competent and competitive new owner for the Mibelle Group. The company has successfully grown beyond the Swiss market and the focus that Migros has defined for its future. As part of Persán, the Mibelle Group will now have an owner that will enable it to pursue its growth and international expansion strategy even more successfully in the future”. Meanwhile, Mibelle Group CEO Peter Müller stated that “we are convinced that as part of Persán we will be able to further strengthen our existing customer relationships. Our customers will benefit from additional competences and capacity. This will enable us to offer them even more innovative solutions and an even more comprehensive product range.”
The parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the sale, including the price.
