What we do

Migros' lorries are fuelled entirely by Swiss biogas. 20 of such vehicles are now on the road in eastern Switzerland. In addition, 14 electric, 10 hydrogen-powered and 72 biodiesel lorries are also in use.

400

kilometres is the maximum range for a 42-tonne electric lorry. Compared to their diesel counterparts, they require only half as much energy and their greenhouse gas emissions are five times lower.

12.1 million

kilometres are covered by freight trains transporting Migros goods in Switzerland every year. Rail transport emits 20,000 tonnes less greenhouse gas than road transport.

235

pallets leave the Delica plant in Meilen, canton Zurich, by rail every day. This means that 80% of the goods are delivered by rail.

300,000

litres of heating oil a year have been saved at the Neuendorf distribution centre in canton Solothurn since waste heat from the deep-freeze warehouse has been used to provide heating after the system was converted in 2017.

36,777

solar modules have been installed at the distribution centre in Neuendorf – on an area about the size of 185 tennis courts. The power generated meets 30% of the company's own electricity needs as well as supplying an additional 3,100 households.

40

percent of goods are transported by rail from the national distribution centres to the regional distribution centres of the Migros Cooperatives. A route simulator is used for the 60% of road transport to ensure short journeys, maximum capacity utilisation and to minimise empty runs.
