Are sustainable festivals possible?
The festival summer is just around the corner. Sunshine, great music and celebration with friends, but also disposable tents, plastic cups, trampled fields and speakers blasting bass beats night and day. At first sight, festivals don’t really have a lot in common with sustainability.
Migros supports some of Switzerland’s biggest festivals, including the Openair Frauenfeld and Paléo Festival. In addition, the Migros Culture Percentage provides four Swiss festivals with financial support to help them determine their ecological footprint and then take steps to become climate-neutral.
We therefore ask the question: Can this be squared with our sustainability strategy? Are carbon-neutral festivals also possible? And how can party-goers help ensure that the festival summer is as sustainable as possible?
