How sustainable are paper hankies?
Whether it’s because we have a cold or suffer from hay fever, we use a lot of handkerchiefs in winter and spring. And having blown our nose, we immediately throw this paper away.
And yet paper is scarce worldwide and consumes a lot of water and even more energy to produce. Should we continue using paper hankies? Wouldn’t it be more ecological to blow our noses into cloth handkerchiefs? In this episode, Nico visits the paper museum known as the Basler Papiermühle. There he finds out what it takes to make paper and speaks to Olin Bartlome, the Managing Director of FSC Switzerland, about what types of paper are sustainable.
