Sustainability strategy

Circular economy

The waste is pressed into bales in the operations centres.

We aim to implement closed-loop systems by 2050 to protect biodiversity and the climate. We are optimising our packaging and promoting sustainable recycling solutions. We are also reducing food waste across the entire value chain.

What we're committed to

  • Circular economy

    Closed-loop systems

How will we achieve this? Take a look for yourself!

Our goals

  1. Between now and 2030, we will halve the food waste in our businesses and at our stores compared to 2017, and support measures in upstream and downstream value chains.

  2. a) By 2030, we will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 10% compared to 2019 levels by optimising packaging.

    • By 2030, all of our plastic packaging will be recyclable.

    b) By 2030, we will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 10% compared to 2019 levels by reducing operational waste.

  3. We will save 100,000 tonnes of CO2e* between 2025 and 2030 by promoting the circularity of our products, services and buildings.
*CO2 equivalents (CO2e) is a unit of measurement used to standardise the climate impact of the various greenhouse gases (e.g. methane, nitrous oxide). 1 tonne is roughly equivalent to the emissions of a flight from Zurich to New York (one-way).

    • PET Recycling Switzerland (PRS)

      Icon for opening or closing

The PET Recycling Switzerland (PRS) association has been organising the collection of PET beverage bottles in a nationwide disposal network since 1990. The aim is to achieve a national recycling rate of at least 75%. The rate was set by DETEC – the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications. Pleasingly, this rate currently stands at over 81%.

We are a founding member and collect the most PET beverage bottles in the retail trade. We take part in various board meetings every year and support joint projects.
